Roe v. Wade trimester framework | image tagged in roe v wade trimester framework | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
You know, surgery is a subject Ben Carson actually knows quite a lot about. His opinion in this area, certainly, is worth hearing out.

Brainwave activity begins in approximately the 3rd trimester. I’d be curious to know what stages of pregnancy he operated on fetuses. Obviously not the first few weeks since there’s nothing to operate on when the fetus is the size of a grain of rice.

Roe v. Wade has always allowed abortion bans beginning in the 3rd trimester, which I think is quite reasonable. Fetuses can survive outside the mother’s womb at that point.

If Ben Carson or some other medical expert has a good case for banning abortions within the 2nd trimester, I’m willing to hear it.

But banning abortions in the 1st trimester is a bridge too far. So many miscarriages happen during this early stage of pregnancy anyway. You are going to end up prosecuting a lot of women who just had a natural reaction.

Every doctor I saw during each of my pregnancies referred to the life inside me as "baby". It was the same with the technicians who took the monthly ultrasounds and every single nurse who took that life's monthly growth measurements. These are are human beings that grow inside us and they are more:they are the inventors, the scientists, the writers, the entertainers, the historians, the philosophers, the artists, the crusaders, the lovers, the leaders and ultimately, the hope for the generations that come after us.

Did you ever voice an interest in terminating the pregnancy?

Did you ever consider terminating a stupid question before typing it?

Yes, when talking to smart or decent people.

I'll take it that you didn't voice any interest in termination.

With that said:

Bedside manner is a thing (I will come back to that.) Women seeking abortion don't want to hear pro-life propaganda; no one wants to hear this tissue they're going to rid themselves of as a "baby." This is true for those within the first trimester as it doesn't pass the "smell test" for being alive. That being, when you are on life support on a hospital bed with no brain activity, you are pronounced dead. Brain death means there's no saving you. You're gone.

A fetus without a brain or CNS is the same way, some believe. Since there's no other metric to measure the "soul" or human consciousness, some choose to rely on brainwave activity.

However, a woman seeking to carry her offspring to term wants to enjoy the time she is having in the experience of pregnancy. Calling your unborn child-to-be a "fetus" is cold and unwelcoming - even though it's the correct term for what it is.

And if you think that people seek out abortions beyond the first trimester on a regular basis, you would be wrong. In fact, the greater consensus for abortion to be acceptable is within the developmental phase that I mentioned. Once the fetus can perceive pain and consciousness, only then is it truly inhumane - unless there are medical emergencies that put the mother or fetus at risk - then it's a tragedy in which there is no right answer, nor a wrong answer. It's simply the mother's choice to live or die for her child.

Go preach it to the choir, Reverend Red Triangle. And have a blessed evening.

If you're referencing Hand Maid's Tale, you've got it wrong.

Sorry, I have never watched the Handmaid's Tale. But you sure sound like a preacher.

I wouldn't know. I don't go to church. How do you gauge what makes someone sound like a preacher?

Because like the preachers who have coming knocking, uninvited, to my door, you don't know when to shut up.

I don't see the connection. This is public forum within the sphere of imgflip.com.
