Space Battle 3

The Horizon was complete, it was an odd looking ship but no one really questioned the design. It was a dreadnought class. It had an impressive shield. It’s damage output was what Sky could only describe as “insane.”

After some tests in the field, the ship was deemed fit for battle. It decimated anything in its way, and Sky began too question how ethical the ship really was. Avalanche seemed more proud of her team’s achievement. The ship was the perfect sentinel killer. Those machines could do almost nothing to it. Luckily this would be the only time such a ship was constructed. Stardust was was concerned about the ship falling into the wrong hands, or talons in her case. Avalanche assured them that the ship was likely to be destroyed during their war, and if it wasn’t, she would deconstruct it after so more starships could be made using The Horizon’s materials. Now it was time to focus on other experimental weapons.

Sky had recently acquired some new types of starfighters. He called them solar sailers because they can deploy sails that can convert a star’s light into energy, much like a solar panel. They still could use fuel, the sails were meant for short distances anyways. Stardust was wondering how to improve the shields, so she started tinkering with one. Sky caught her working on the ship after a few days.

“So that’s who’s been messing with the ship.”

Stardust jumped, she didn’t notice Sky walking up to her even with her mind powers. She was too preoccupied with the ship.

“Sorry Sky, I just wanted to try improving the ship to protect the pilot.”

“I’m actually proud you’re taking an interest in the ship, I’ll let you keep working on it. The rest of these solar ships have been approved for battle, their high speed despite the sails and a reinforced hull makes them excellent fighters. Keep up the good work.”

Stardust worked on them even through battles, which Sky was glad about, he didn’t want her getting hurt. Avalanche stopped by every now and then to see what Stardust was up too. She sometimes have some advice but had to attend to other projects. Stardust had also fixed some design faults. For example, the engines were only attached to the main hull by unprotected metal bars and wiring. A few well placed shots could detach an engine. They found this to be a constant problem with the fighter. She brought the engines close to the hull, rerouted wiring, and reinforced them with the strongest metal available. Then she improved the shielding itself, the new shielding she created was almost 10 times stronger. Then she added an automatic repair bay that would automatically repair the ship, even if it was in battle. The she converted the sails themselves into shields able to deflect most weapons.

“I think you’ve just created the best starfighter shielding in the universe,” said Sky when he tested the ship.

Avalanche was surprised. “What in the great infinite did you even use to make this shielding?”

“I have the materials list here somewhere, ah here it is.” Stardust handed Avalanche the list of materials she used on the ship.

“I want all of the starfighters we have to have this shield. Get me the schematics for this. I’m very impressed, I would have never thought a Three year old dragon could do this,” said Sky.
