Catherine II of Russia (AKA Catherine the Great) became empress by murdering her husband. She promoted the interests of the upper class, preserved & extended serfdom, & even forced the peasants to grow potatoes against their will. She wanted to expand the country at all costs. She invaded Poland, Türkiye/Crimea, seized much land around the Black Sea, & violently subjugated the Native Siberians as well. She was the Vladimir Putin of her day - total Karen.
