The missiles in Turkey weren’t that important to the USA.
I think they were redundant or being made redundant anyway.
The USSR had no other land based missiles on the same continent (North America, if you count Cuba as N American). The USA had other missiles in Europe.
There are probably still things that we don’t know from both sides. Not official documents from USA, but probably in memoirs kept in families. The USSR- there could official documents still in Russia or formerUSSRplaces.
