In this scene, the townsfolk would have hung Curly Bill, his gang be damned. Wyatt stopped both his death and Curlies gang from rescuing him. He wanted Curly Bill tried fairly. Though the system failed the Earp's, Wyatt was morally correct in this decision. Never regret doing the right thing, consequences be damned.
