I wouldn't say it's doing nothing but if sanctions were made against Russia's energy export, gas prices would go up even higher than they already are. Biden promised that the sanctions he would made would not majorly affect the American people.
Democrats and other politicians have also spent years, if not decades, to try to push for alternative fuels and have been met with political resistance from both opponents and businesses alike that depend on fuel.
If you're suggesting that Democrats should re-double their efforts on alternative fuels and allow us to have expensive gas in the meanwhile, possibly for years to come, I'm not sure that would be such a popular move among the American people regardless of their political affiliations and alignments.
