Step 2. The grid can't cope with houses now requiring extra 100s of KW each night.
Step 3. Start rolling blackouts and restrictions on being able to even charge the cars

Yep, me too!
And despite what the Biden Youth trolls think, solar power isn't the answer. No matter what, the extra generation capacity (in any form) can't be on line by 2030. Even if it was, solar has an overall efficiency of about 25%. Worse -- and the libs can't seem to understand this -- solar panels don't generate ANY power at night. (I've been told repeatedly on this site that they do.) As you indicate, that's important because most EV recharging would be performed nightly.
