MOUNT MORE RUSH | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Absolutely! Possibly my favorite Rush song (but there are so many)

I'm not a huge Rush fan, most of their music I don't like, but the songs that got airplay I really like. Freewill is one of my favorites. Both Rush and Ayn Rand are/were atheists, I am not. So that is the only problem I have with the song and with Rand's philosophy. I believe to have freedom you must be a moral person and conversely you cannot be a moral person without freedom.

I'm a Christian and as I was reading Atlas Shrugged found myself disagreeing with many assertions (In particular I found John Galt's radio tirade troubling). To me free will is one of God's greatest gifts to humanity. When people ask why does God allow bad things to happen to good people and good things happen to bad people it is precisely because of free will. If you want God to see to it that only good happens to good people and bad to bad people, there goes free will. Great username :-)

I agree 100%. I also had problems with Galt's radio tirade. In addition he just kept repeating himself over and over. After a page or two I just skipped ahead to when it was over. I think Rand could have edited that speech down a whole lot.

I don't know what kind of Christians Ayn Rand knew but she probably didn't know any. She should have paid more attention to the founding fathers of the nation she fled to for freedom. They were all devout Christians. Thomas Jefferson was a deist but he firmly believed in the morals that Jesus taught. He just didn't believe in the miracles.

Those very same devout Christians gave us the freest nation to have ever existed. They did so specifically because the believed, like you and I, that God is the author of liberty and man cannot take it away. So while Rand was badmouthing "the mystics" she was enjoying the freedom those very same "mystics" protected with the Constitution.

Absolutely on all counts! Perhaps what I love most about The Declaration Of Independence is the assertion that our rights are endowed by God. If we concede that our rights are granted by man then we must accept that man can rescind them.

Funny story, on a side note, way back when life seemed to be simpler, I listened to this album on vinyl. One day I was reading the lyrics on the record insert, and on this song there was a typo. It read, "if you choose not to decide, you cannot have made a choice". I was like, wait a minute...🤔 now every time I hear this song I think of that...😄

Wow, that lyrics is Neil Peart at his best and they butchered it! On a tangent, the liner notes on Cheap Trick Live At Budokan include the lyric "Ain't that a sham" among many other "typos". Tangent part II: In high school I had a cassette deck that required a steak knife, tremendous manual dexterity and a lot of patience to load a cassette. As such I didn't change tapes very often and I ended up listening to Budokan almost my entire junior year ("Bohemian Rhapsody" and "You're My Best Friend" were also on it to fill out the tape). Now every time I hear "Bohemian Rhapsody" (which is a lot these days) I'm back in my brown '71 Galaxy 500 with the torn vinyl roof. :-)

Ahh, the memories! How about taping songs off the radio, and trying to cut off the DJ at the end of the song? 😆

Oh, the hours I spent holding a mike next to the speaker, trying to keep it steady, not cough and anticipate the end of the song. I recorded some vinyl too, but it always sounded like a Rice Krispies commercial :-)

I vaguely remember doing that with a single cassette recorder, before they were made to record directly from radio. I eventually had both of those^ 💪😎🤘
