In a way they kind of represent past, present, and future.
Russia is very traditionalist, America lives in the present and is going through the most turmoil because it's caught between 2 eras, and China seems to be moving towards that new era, the technotronic one, but in an unnervingly draconian way.
Old energy is moving out. New energy is coming in. America seems to represent the bridge, and hopefully we can move forward retaining the best of both worlds while minimizing the negatives.
