It's easier for a compassionate person to watch dumb people die preventable deaths than it is for dumb people to cope with their own cognitive dissonances. But as a compassionate person myself, I take joy in watching dumb people's suffering end.
Of course, I could take joy in seeing their suffering end as they resolve their own cognitive dissonances instead of dying. But whether they resolve their own cognitive dissonances is up to them, not me. And I'm perfectly content to accept that, however it plays out.
