I never said I want democratic socialism. I am far to the left of democratic socialists, an anarchist. I don’t see myself having supported authoritarianism anywhere. There ought to be no authority resting on oppression, coercion or exploitation, and for us to listen to and accept the advice of experts, scholars, researchers and other intellectuals, it should be done so voluntarily. But anarchists stress responsibility. It is irresponsible to do harm to others. That is what we are doing by defying the public safety protocols that keep people from contracting COVID. I think communism could handle a pandemic a lot better than capitalism, as a lockdown would be a lot more possible with mutual aid to provide for people while reducing the spread of a virus or disease. People would be more willing to trust their neighbors and brothers, rather than government officials or those sitting at the top of pharmaceutical mega corporations.
I believe in critical thinking and people comparing sources and deciding for themselves. Unfortunately this isn’t taught well and too many fall for dangerous misinformation that is spread so carelessly. Misinformation is a sad reality, and it needs to be dealt with seriously.
I’m not an authoritarian nor do I believe in censorship, but I do believe in dealing with active threats in the most effective way possible (not abandoning anarchist principles in the process). I am obviously not siding with the capitalists. The capitalists want to disregard worker safety and keep making profits. The workers are protesting the Canadian government, not their employers. These truckers are obviously right-wing. Do you really think they’re trying to establish worker cooperatives and abolish capitalist institutions? Obviously not. They’re being cheered on by the Trumps.
It should be obvious that I wouldn’t align myself with this cause. Conservatives are not allies because they behave as reactionaries, seeking to maintain or restore hierarchical and individualistic capitalist institutions. We do not share common ideals.
