To be fair, at least those random ideas in Yu-Gi-Oh! actually end up WORKING. Unlike in Pokémon Sun & Moon onward where it just becomes Diet Yo-Kai Watch.

Dark Magician lore was a part of the manga. The origin story for him as a Duel Monster and his connection to Yugi are a central part of the last arc.
