YES Jeff especially is sad. I read a newer version, in which his family moved to a rich neighborhood, he and his brother, Liu, get bullied and beaten up. His father ignores him and yells at him, and his mother tells HIM to apologize to the bully, Randy, and his friends, Keith and Troy. They lure him into the garage to beat him up again, and when he beats the living shit out of them gets shot in the face with a FLARE GUN. This blinds him in his left eye and severely burns his face and hair. All his parents care about is what other people will think of them with a zombie-looking kid (Liu is the only one who cared about his brother) AND they think he shot himself in the face because that's what Randy said. Mind you, he hears EVERYTHING while in the HOSPITAL BED. He is rightfully pissed. Like, wouldn't you? So, he kills his parents the night they go home, sparing Liu. He's still a terrible psychotic creature, but his also just a troubled young adult, sympathetic and relatable to an extent. Am I right? Or am I just nuts?
