Stone since it's so common. Then I use iron to mine the ores that need it.

Wood is good for 3-20ish stone then is thrown away or if ur smart u use it as fuel

stone you mine so much and its extremely easy to get one back when it breaks, however always have an iron pick on you to ensure if you find diamonds or iron only enables you can actually get it

And wood for smelting and 3ish cobblestone

For mining stone, coal, and iron I use stone. For mining pretty much everything else, I use iron. I usually get bored and quit before I find diamonds.

Stone, but I’ve gotten enough stuff that I can now burn through dozens of iron pickaxes instead of dozens of stone ones.

Even late game I still use stone tho unless theres diamonds or smth obviously
