Miss Story puts on some white rubber gloves and takes out an old wooden chest

Mabel: From the looks of things, this chest is 100, maybe 150 years old.

"It's around I'd day 134, considering the contents." She gently sets it on the table

She carefully opens it- the chest is filled to the brim with old letters, photographs and charms.

Mabel: My goodness! This is basically a treasure trove of information!

Miss Story walks into a dark room with lights illuminating a display behind glass. A smoke smothered city is painted behind a cliff. Two wax statues sit side by side, one pointing as though there are stats and the other leaning on her shoulder. A truly beautiful tribute to the girls that once lived and loved.

Mabel: It's gorgeous...

"Mhm. . .sometimes I wonder what would've happened if she'd survived the bombs. I wish with all of my hearts it would've been this."

Mabel: The bombings...

She scowls- "they were instigated by none other than Cuttlefish himself. If I had lived back then, I would've brutally murdered that WRETCHED man-" She clenches her fists

Mabel: Captain Cuttlefish... he's still around.

". . .wh-what? There's no. . .is he aware of what he's done? Aware of how terribly he broke everyone's hearts? Liam died and so Valerie killed herself, her mother fell into depression, her father into a rage filled with insanity, a whole nation mourning-"

"Let's look at a letter from Valerie, Shall we?""

She takes out a letter from the box and reads it-

"My Dearest Princess,
I hope this letter finds you well. With all the recent bombings, they haven't been mailing as fast. To help you through these awful times, here is a necklace with a pure obsidian charm. I hope you think of me when you wear it.
Love, Val."

Mabel: *crying*

"Aw, poor thing- do you remember how I said we have a wax statue of her on display here?"

"That's me! You're studying a specific pair from the GTW period, correct?"

Mabel: Correct. Specifically, I'm looking for anything on a Captain Cuttlefish.

"Why's that?" She walks into the back and motions for Mabel to follow

Mabel: I've been looking into the sudden appearance of inkctolings. Perhaps you've heard of them?

"Ah, yes. We only have a few Inktolings recorded in all of history, but the most famous by far Is Liam Juniper Cuttlefish. The captains sister defected and married the head general soon to be king, octavio, and that's when Liam popped up. Some even speculate her birth began the war."

Mabel: Ok. You see, I've interviewed some Inktolings, and they all seem to have some connection to Cuttlefish. If I find out what Cuttlefish's connection is, then maybe I can find why we're suddenly experiencing an insurgence in Inktoling populations.

She removes a photograph of an octoling girl in a big navy cost posing infront of a weeping willow.
"Now, do you know who this young lady was?"

Mabel: Is that Liam?

"No- Liam looked much different. This is a defected octoling general named Valerie Johnson. She worked for the Squidbeak Splatoon, and was sort of trapped in that loop. But oddly, she and the princess would always sneak away to hang out. Now the thing about Liam is that she only dated things with the month and day, not the year. This photo was taken on March 25th."

Mabel: March 25th... maybe that means something

"It might only mean that's why she was wearing a raincoat." Miss Story giggles.
"Let's take a look at another photo." She takes one from the box.
This photo has Valerie wearing pilot goggles with Liam having her arm over her shoulder and giving her bunny ears with her fingers. Liam has black tentacles and starish shaped pupils- she's rather pretty.
