For those of you who are preparing to scream "global warming" to take advantage of this historic disaster, let me set your tiny minds straight.
I lived in this area for a few years. Winds are horrible in the Rocky Flats area. You can have surprise windstorms or mysterous straight line wind gusts that occur at random. I personally experienced a random 140+ mph gust that blew my sliding windows and doors out of their tracks! The only things you'll find in abundance are constant wind, endless grass, and howling coyotes. The area is also tinderbox dry for most of the year. In Spring the foothills west of Superior explode into dark emerald greens, but by winter everything turns ruddy brown or grey. Finally, when cold fronts/storms blow into the area, you'll have all-day windstorms occur and there is nothing you can do except wait for the sun to set. By then the winds die down.
Oh and I survived the Waldo Canyon fire too and we watched as a front blew in and kicked up 50 mph winds...which blew the fire straight into western Colorado Springs! This is how the weather works in Colorado, its always chaotic due to the microcosm characteristics of those mountains, elevation, wild temp fluctuations and low humidity. What has happened to these people is terrible, but don't make it worse by trying to fit local weather into your global warming hysteria train (which I am certain will happen as soon as folks return to their blogs in 2022).
