I’m sympathetic to this up to a point — we need to keep trying to understand each other — but:
—Democrats picked Biden, a fundamentally decent if sometimes bumbling man whose signature priorities are beating COVID, rebuilding our infrastructure, and putting money in working people’s pockets.
—Republicans picked Trump, the least law-abiding President since Nixon (probably ever), the most openly racist since Woodrow Wilson, the most radical and reactionary since Andrew Johnson. His only durable policy was a massive tax cut for the rich. All of the flaws of our worst Presidents and none of the redeeming qualities. And he’s still massively popular with the GOP base, for precisely all these reasons.
The GOP keeps picking Trump — and the rage and criminality and conspiracy theories and lies he stands for — over decent Republicans time and time again over the past 5 years. Until we grapple with that fact, we’re not being honest.
