Genetic resistance to pathogens comes from a LESS homogenized gene pool, not more. Japan contained the epidemic so efficiently because they've seen it before and they knew what to do instead of whining about it, and it's really that simple.

Pump the brakes there thesis. Japan was doing fairly well, but overall has had quite a few covid cases. If they're lagging in the omicron variant... just give it some time. Unless you think they'll be better at containing that than they have been overall?

So I don't think they should be glorified as a govt with a particularly effective or insightful approach. Like most other govts, they did, and are doing, what they think is best for them. Nothing wrong with that.
