Yes, it's true that more people have died in 2021 than did in 2020. It's also true that the lion's share of deaths have been and continue to be in Republican states soooo....it's probably not the best plan to attempt framing this as a "Dems v. Repubs" issue. Of course, I'd not make such a statement if I couldn't back it up -originally posted 11/19/21, as of this morning, updated 12/17/21:

Nor is it a wise plan to attempt framing the issue in terms of "whose administration is doing a worse job"; no matter what the current administration's response to the situation has been, there's a monumental difference between deliberately working to stymie efforts to control the spread of a disease while actively feeding the public mis/disinformation and working in good faith to control the spread of a disease but failing. No matter how hard a government may work to stop a disease, the outcome of such efforts ultimately depends on the actions of the governed. Speaking of which....
Political distributions of deaths & governmental bad actors aside, it seems logical that if one is looking to lay blame for reductible/preventable deaths by communicable disease, the place to start is with the over-arching stupidity of individuals who deny the existence of a disease, dig in their heels and whine like little bitches about being asked to social distance, wear a mask, get vaccinated against the thing that's causing the deaths and then look to the figures in government/positions of social leadership whom aided, abetted and encouraged such idiocy for political and/or personal gain --disease doesn't play politics, doesn't care whether one is riding an elephant or a donkey, doesn't care about which deity one follows only about finding a path to carving out a place for itself in one's flesh. Unfortunately, there's a common thread among those displaying the aforementioned behavioral traits vis-a-vis a propensity to blame the people trying to fix/mitigate the problem for the problem and celebrating the people who created/exacerbated the problem....which tends to render expections of rationality from said same something of a fool's errand.
