As Churchill said, democracy is the worst of all systems - except for all the others we have tried.

Pure democracy can be dangerous. There needs to be a Constitution to prevent potential oppression by the majority, and basically to protect the individual. In USA, it's not pure democracy (and it's not supposed to be). Technically, it's a Constitutional Republic.
