Crescent for the country’s main religion, Islam
14 stripes for 14 different states
14 point star for the unity of the states
Blue for unity for the people
Yellow for country’s royal colour
Red, white blue colour combination for former commonwealth country

It's that the stripes almost look the same but they also used a moon and sun

Liberia makes sense- It was a territory briefly controlled by the United States, where freed slaves were brought if they wished to return to their home continent. It was made into a fully independent nation later.

Meanwhile, Malaysia has no excuse.
