[Of course it’s not the ONLY reason I hate anime. Usually, I just consider these more reasons for why anime should never have gained any popularity in other Asian or Western countries in the first place, not necessarily a reason to HATE anime. However, my anime hate-o-meter fluctuates from day to day, on some days I’m pretty chill and inclined towards negotiation with the AGA, while on other days the aggression is up to a fever pitch.]
And Unit 731.
And the Bangka Island massacre.
And the Palawan massacre.
And the Wake Island massacre.
And the reprisals against civilians in retaliation for partisan activities during the Jesselton Revolt, including the Sulug Island massacre.
And the usage of chemical weapons (BANNED by the Geneva Convention) in the battles of Changde and Wuhan, among others.
And slave labor of prisoners of war and civilians.
And perfidy, not just at Pearl Harbor but on numerous occasions on the front lines, like faking surrender (so much for the whole “honor” thing)
And ang Martse ng Kamatayan sa Bataan (Bataan Death March).
And the “comfort women”.
To add insult to injury, Japan’s government has rarely issued any form of official apology for these war crimes.
(There are some people in the government, however, who have admitted and apologized for these war crimes, but there are also negationists and revisionists who deny or downplay these war crimes. A famous example is the “history textbook” controversy, although nowadays most of Japan’s government-approved textbooks contain references to these war crimes without attempting to whitewash them. It should also be noted that the American government should also be held responsible for failing to adequately punish some war criminals; Hirohito and the imperial family were declared immune from prosecution for war crimes, and Unit 731 was left unpunished in exchange for the U.S. Army getting their “research” papers and results of their gruesome experiments.)
