I'm less concerned about the cost of abortion/adoption than safe, legal access to them. The film Cider House Rules did a great job of shining a light on what can happen when abortion is chased into back alleys. (Plus there's a great shot of Charlize Theron's ass.)
The point I was going for with this meme is that people (usually men) who tell women what they can and can't do in a situation they themselves will never face, and then wave off the fallout by saying "adoption's an option" had at least better volunteer for the task themselves. Otherwise they're refusing to take an active role in solving a problem they went out of their way to help create.
As for avoiding making kids...accidents happen. Even vasectomies and IUDs can fail. Condoms fail one out of every 50 or so times. To say nothing of rape. Ideally abortion would be a last line defense when others failed, but in those cases...well, it boils down to does a person support another person's right to choose, or do they not support another person's right to choose.
