That’s RUP’s proposed Senate. The current version of the Senate that has been implemented by the Common Sense Constitution is allowed to vote on all the same stuff as Congress.

But then, honestly, what’s the point? Just another chamber to do the exact same thing? Honestly when I ran I never thought of it like that.

Yeah pretty much. It’s designed like that so that if one party sweeps the election and takes a supermajority of Congress, there’s still the Senate to prevent them from just ramming through their agenda. It’s a similar situation to how Congress in the US is split into the House and Senate.

also what OP said. the senate can keep congress in check if it's out of line or tyrannical. everything congress passes the senate has to pass too, and vice versa I believe.

How are we keeping Congress in check? It only exists in name. What was the last thing Congress even did? How is Senate going to hold by being Congress just dealing with outside stuff

"What was the last thing Congress even did?" we literally just passed a constitution and the bank, all today. It's a check on Congress. Anything that Congress approves, the Senate must also approve. Now I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but having the Senate only doing the very rare task of handling foreign affairs makes absolutely no sense. At that point, the Senate might as well not even exist.

If the Senate votes in stuff Congress votes on, why not just expand Congress to 30 members?

So that if one party stuffs Congress with people that don't represent the stream, there's still the Senate that can represent the people as that isn't necessarily affected by the elections here.

We should have a law which restricts users that have less than 5 posts and aren’t that active.

Go ahead and write one up if you like and call for a Congress vote on it. Personally, I think having to register for an ID at the DMV is adequate enough, but this is a democracy so if you have a better idea, bring it before Congress.

The Senate and the Congress balance each other out. That makes it difficult to make insane laws or shove bills through that no one read or wants.
