You know, I haven’t given OP’s proposal much thought. It’s been kind of beaten into our heads in civics class that Athenian-style “direct democracy” is unworkable, but for a roleplay with only a few dozen active members? Why not?
Also, our systems (in both America and Britain) already contain elements of direct democracy, such as when specific propositions are put to a vote of the electorate in a referendum.
I think it’d certainly be an improvement over the mostly AFK RUP crony Congress that consistently chooses against the wishes of the actually active role players here.
However, I spot an immediate practical problem, which is determining the exact size of the electorate at any given time. We have to know *exactly* how large the Congressional electorate is in order to know what “a majority” or “a supermajority” is.
If there’s an idea for determining the size of the electorate — like, everybody who has an official Imgflip_DMV license is a Congressmember with voting rights — maybe that would solve it.
