I grew up with the toilet paper end tucked behind and underneath. It was hard to grab, because our dispensers were recessed into the walls. When I became old enough to see the logic of having it over the top and easy to reach, I asked my mother why we did not do it like that. She only said that we always do it the other way. So, one day I switched the rolls in all the bathrooms to over the top. By the end of the day, all the paper was unrolled onto the floor. You see, our heat vent registers were directly beneath the roll holders, and the forced air would flap the end of the paper, causing it to slowly unroll. Mom just sighed and said, "That's why we always do it the other way." Today, I put it over the top. But sometimes I do it from the bottom because it reminds me of home.
