So, it matters on the type of colors you are using.
If you are using poster colors, always make small strokes, don't take too much water, and most of all keep the water AWAY FROM YOUR DRAWING.
If you are using watercolors you don't need to take much water cuz they already have water, in watercolors you should try to make small strokes, because when you make long strokes, you might end up spoiling the whole drawing, whenever you are using paint, outline your drawing AFTER COLORING, because, if you outline before coloring, the paint might mix with the outline and then your drawing will become a mess. Whenever doing oil pastels, you should use small round strokes, and when you are mixing colors BE PATIENT, if you are impatient, you might make big strokes, and then the colors don't mix, and that looks horrible. When using pencil colors/ pencil, First you should start from the dark, then go to the light. BE SLOW. Whenever drawing, you should first, draw then outline (if you are not painting!) color, add highlights, add shadows, and details!
