The vaccines and antibodies do work..... But they're not 100% effective, the extent to which they are effective declines over time, and yes, some new mutations / variants are more resistant than previous ones.
Basically what the article was saying is that surviving covid AND getting the vaccine provides the best immunity..("hybrid immunity").
They know this because they created some new virus that was resistant to vaccinated people and resistant to antibodies from people who recovered from covid..... But..... it turned out the virus they created was NOT resistant against people who had both antibodies from surviving covid AND the vaccine.
