There are things about it I like, it’s not crazy overall, but there are a few big process-based problems: (1) It seems to change every week or two with minimal debate based on RUP’s short-term needs (term limits much?); (2) The Owner(s) haven’t given input or agreed to it which I think would be necessary for it to have true binding force throughout the land; (3) Congress in its current composition is quite unrepresentative of the stream as a whole.
It could be a RUP constitution, if RUP agrees to be bound by it, but as it stands it can’t credibly bind other parties, the Owners, or the stream as a whole.
N.E.R.D. previously stated we’d follow the RUP constitution if we won, pending our own Constitution’s passage, but now we’re having doubts about that in light of recent events and our own Party’s evolution. First off, we want to reform Congress into a proportionally allocated Parliament, so that every Party that earns at least 5% of the vote gets a Representative. That’s a big break from the way Congress is currently filled.
Second, the interpretation that an impeached VP can cast a tie-breaking vote in their own trial was a howler. Has that been fixed in the latest draft? I honestly don’t know, haven’t checked. But interpretations like that can be avoided with some plain common sense or just better drafting on the front-end. I’m not convinced this latest draft is going to anticipate problems going forward, or isn’t going to change next week.
I vote nay.
