Des Cartes "science," was "B.S." that was accepted by the people it was intended to please, religious folks. The existence of a soul is crucial to the Christian belief system. Christians rationalize killing animals to eat, because they have no souls. Vegans find this to be barbaric. The so called "Animal Rights Movement," thinks killing a Calf for Veal, is the same as killing a human child to eat. As an atheist, I favor my own species and am against killing a child. But, the question is "When is a child a child?" Many people believe that consciousness is the litmus test that separates man from beast. Since humans are basically "asleep," and not "conscious" and unaware of their own existence while in the womb, a child technically becomes a child at birth. This is supported by the most recent science published in a major journal, since the age of information is important to you.
How about using ages to examine the religious argument that all life is "sacred and begins at conception?" That argument is dependent on accepting a story that pegs the age of our planet and the existence of "Man," in the "Image of God," at under 10,000 years. That happened more than 64,990,000 years after a six mile wide asteroid hit Earth causing a crater110-miles across and throwing out debris the atmosphere, changing the climate and killing off about 3/4 of all animal and plant species that rotted and became the coal, oil and gas that we have been using for fuel for centuries. Geologic and Fossil evidence is abundant to prove Dinosaurs existed for tens of millions of years on a planet that is less than 10,000 years old, according to people who use the Bible as the basis for a moral argument against abortion. And, that does not even consider the evidence that a "Big Bang," created the known Universe over twelve billion years before the Dinosaurs wandered the Earth.
There is physical evidence for all the "B.S." I have cited. I can find no physical evidence for the existence of the God, the anti-abortionists cite as their moral authority.
