I do not believe this was in his "job description". It is in someone's, but that person is not a member of the military - they are a civilian.

China was readying for war because they thought we were posturing for war.

General Milley took the initiative where this "someone" had been seeming to drop the ball. Per joint testimony, it was not Trump's aim to go to war. So, you're suggesting that Milley should resign for saving us from another war? A potentially bloody and vicious one?

Your straw person argument has no merit. If the military powers that be assume control of executive powers they do not have, our very democracy is in jeopardy. If the President is thought unfit, follow the method to remove them. Take your concerns to the press. Take your concerns to Senate leaders, House leaders, the VP. But you not take your concerns to the military leaders of other countries.

You don't need executive powers to try to keep the peace. You need executive powers to declare war.. That's what generals can't do. It is the role of generals to observe the terms of engagement. Do not fire unless fired upon.

Show me where it says that it was unlawful for Milley to speak on behalf of the US and say "we don't want to go to war."

The question is: do you? Milley wasn't inciting a war, like Trump was, he was trying to prevent one. And we all knew for a long time that the Pentagon was actively working outside of Trump's purview because he couldn't be trusted. That's been a known thing. Now if Milley was trying to start a war behind the president's back that's one thing. But trying to calm tensions when you have an incompetent leader who was willing to do anything, even incite his followers to raid the Capitol building, that might be a faux pas but it's certainly not criminal of the egregious kind.

Imagine the damages caused by such an act. We should make such acts illegal! No Keeping peace behind the President's back! Only the most serious crimes to the right wing

The military is part of the executive branch. They weren't usurping Presidential powers, merely executing their own duties.

The lack of understanding the role the military plays and what role the do not play in maintaining democracy demonstrated in the comments is both sad and disturbing.

This is not a question of "maintaining democracy". The General's job is to ensure that we are ready for war, and maintain the best possible global strategic posture.

What's sad and disturbing is this pearl clutching and posturing about government procedure after the right tried to prevent a duly elected president from getting certified by invading and trashing the Capitol building. Sure, let's talk about "maintaining democracy." Trump LOST. He lost so bad, 40 lawsuits and multiple recounts later, he still LOST. But you all thought you could hold off the certification so one of your crooked SCOTUS justices could try to do some back alley court nonsense and allow Trump to stay in. WTF does the right know about maintaining Democracy these days? Not much.
