I’ll give a statement of my own, as an example — though I will withhold it from evidence at trial because as an impeachment trial manager, it oversteps my authority to testify.
I am not gay myself. However, I have had gay and trans friends at pretty much every point in my life, starting in high school. Many of my neighbors are gay, and the Pride Parade goes through our neighborhood. My wife is LGBTQ (bisexual). I once worked for a boss who was LGBTQ, and she mentored me and helped me get started in my career.
LGBTQ people are everywhere in our society, even if you can’t always see them. They are some of the warmest and kindest people I’ve ever met.
Some passages of the Bible condemn homosexuality, indeed — and some passages of the Bible celebrate the slaughter of children, and the drowning of humanity, mandate that widows should marry their brothers-in-law, and tells you what days of the week you can eat shellfish, amongst other nonsense. The Bible in its totality is full of internal contradictions and is not a practical guide to the modern world.
However, when you focus on the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Biblical message is clear. Charity toward all. Malice toward none. The meek shall inherit the earth. Love is the answer. Bashing gay people was not a focus of His teachings in the slightest.
Let God do the judging. On Earth, we are called to love our brothers and sisters whoever they are.
