But we used our constitutional processes to move past it and become "a more perfect union." It's not that we are perfect, because everyone can acknowledge that we're not, but we led the way for countries to have legitimate representative governments in the modern age. We led the world in improving people's quality of life. Other countries have followed our end results and dodged the mistakes we made along the way because they didn't have to take those journeys, but the United States being the trailblazers in protecting people's freedoms should never be seen as offensive. If America still allowed slavery or continued to drive people out of land they own, then the flag could rightfully be seen as offensive. We simply don't, though.
