For what it's worth, I worked on the border near Tucson for an exploration company and we regularly encountered "mules", illegals, coyotes, dead migrants and Border Patrol. Mules were just trying to get their 80 lb backpacks of pot (Not meth, not cocaine, not high value drugs- POT) to I-10 where they dropped them then hurried back to Mexico to free their wives, sisters, mothers and daughters who were kidnapped by the cartels, ransomed by delivering the goods to a pick up on the interstate-- if they weren't raped and murdered first. These were the most painful stories I was told (I speak Spanish). Other illegals die and lie in arroyos and get picked to pieces by buzzards and critters. These were the sickest scenes I've ever seen with my own eyes. Coyotes will kill you, a co-worker was held at gunpoint while a group of coyotes navigated their human cargo into the US. They took his wallet and personal effects which they eventually returned with the warning "We know where you live. If any of us get caught we will come to your house and kill you and your family." He quit and moved to another state.
The most humane thing anyone can do is completely shut down illegal immigrants. I've seen the evil first hand. Build the wall, enforce our laws, kill the bad guys, put them out of business and then improve our legal immigration system.
