This is not the case for just about any other language, except local languages who are derivatives of a common language. American English and British English being derivatives of a greater Old English, the two are the same, simply grown slightly apart due to separation. Take a sip uh' tay, guv'nah (i am so sorry i had to), because although there are gray areas where they don't connect, they are virtually the same.
