if you stop talking about it, people perpetuating it don't know they are doing it.

Let me clarify - teaching white people to be ashamed of their skin tone, or telling darker skinned persons they must be oppressed needs to stop. Teaching everyone that judging people or stereotyping people is wrong would be better.

I'm white and HARDLY ashamed of it or slavery or racism. I'm ashamed that my fellow whites TODAY are unwilling to admit we ALL enjoyed the benefits of not being racially profiled TODAY when we don't get followed around, pulled over for things we didn't do, talked to like idiots because of our skin color, live in a nice place with generations of family nearby because we weren't redlined only a generation ago.

many white people i know personally don't realize they are stereotyping non whites. "I'm not going to that side of town" or "you know what kind of people shop there" or "have you seen who drives those kinds of cars?". it's ingrained without realizing it.
