I miss the days when conservatives better understood the power of incentives and market competition. The incentive to defend one's reputation is an important one. Just imagine how useless places like eBay would be without it.
Yes, you often see a meme shared by a friend, but
1) people tend to share anything they agree with regardless of accuracy
2) social media shows you a specific tiny subset of all the numerous updates from all your friends and contacts, specifically aimed to keep you addicted
As they say, if a product or service is free, *you* are probably the product. If you want quality information, you want a source that derives a good portion of its revenues from subscriptions. Anything and anybody that relies mostly upon advertisements or selling your data is working in the best interests of somebody other than you.
