It might have been more unique and interesting if Snoke was the clone reincarnation of Darth Plaguies instead of Palpatine, trying to fulfill his quest for immortality through the cloning program. If the galaxy was in a bad state he could've tried to take it over with decentralized galactic feudalism instead of centralized galactic fascism, all factions involved being warring fiefdoms under the same aristocracy without knowing it, fighting each other eternally like in Orwell's 1984.
