They seem to present themselves as a satirical party, but they certainly don't act satirical a lot of the time. Pepe's attempts to try avoiding consequences by claiming their hostility is a joke somehow (a joke literally no one outside their party seems to have viewed that way) reminds me of Richard's failed attempt to avoid impeachment. Yet another connection.
