Yeah it’s about the pride of being a Christian. This is definitely the type of pride I felt when I was a Christian

Once the pandemic hit, I had more time to think about my life in general. Whenever I thought about a doubt I had for Christianity, I did something I’ve never done before in my life. I didn’t hide it, I explored it. Another thing I had never done before was listen to people who weren’t Christian. I finally opened my mind to the idea that there are other ways than the Christian way

hmm. your parents never showed you other beliefs and how they work?
I heard that a famous Christian singer went through that same thing last year. Even I had some problems with belief when the pandemic hit. I’ve always tried to be open minded because I don’t like living in denial.
My mom and I read stuff we don’t agree with all the time and we have formulated thoughts on different belief systems. For example, we’ve listened to Michael Shermer, Richard Dawkins, Stephen Hawking, even Hitler and Marx. What’s funny to me is that when i was little, i always believed that when you got to college and learned science, all the evidence would be on the evolutionist side and you just had to tough through it with blind faith. But when i actually studied high falutin science, i found just the opposite. Though it wasn’t very fun for me, science removed most of my doubts about God existing. And what I thought was strong evidence one year wasn't even as strong as what i learned the next year. My problem since has been whether He cares about everyone, and the pandemic didn’t help with that.
I definitely understand the emotional connection, as I am a very emotional person myself (it’s one personality i have that really makes it so i can’t really connect with my mom that well). But when it comes to God, whether He exists or not doesn’t have anything to do with what we are going through.
Hope this helps a little bit. This is basically the last 3 years of my life lol

My family will never open their mind when it comes to God. They wouldn’t dare listen to a non-Christian when it comes to religious beliefs.

Honestly, I only mentioned the pandemic because it gave me more time to think, not that the stuff happening made me doubt. One of the things that made me doubt was the Bible tbh. I kinda want to close this discussion cause it might turn into a “prove the God exists/doesn’t exist”

Yeah, that’s really sad. I think the reason so many people these days grow up to disagree with their parents is that their parents just tell them they’re “supposed to believe” something, and it becomes more of an obligation than a choice. I have always hated trying to be something i was “supposed to be”.
Having doubts about the Bible is actually pretty normal in Christianity, tbh. Actually, for me, the pandemic was almost confirmation that a problem i had with God was real. It’s tragic when you aren’t allowed to have those doubts bc imo that basically sets you up to not believe in God.
Okay. I won’t get into the science stuff then. I actually didn’t like science very much lol

Icelandic lyrics:
Ólafur Liljurós
Ólafur reið með björgum fram,
Villir hann,
Stillir hann
Hitti'hann fyrir sér álfarann,
þar rauður logi brann.
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum,
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum fram.
Þar kom út ein álfamær,
Villir hann,
Stillir hann
Sú var ekki kristni kær.
þar rauður logi brann.
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum,
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum fram.
"Velkominn Ólafur Liljurós!
Villir hann,
Stillir hann
Gakk í björg og bú með oss".
þar rauður logi brann.
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum,
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum fram.
"Ekki vil ég með álfum búa,
Villir hann,
Stillir hann
Heldur vil ég á Krist minn trúa".
þar rauður logi brann.
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum,
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum fram.
Hún gekk sig til arkar,
Villir hann,
Stillir hann
Tók upp saxið snarpa.
þar rauður logi brann.
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum,
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum fram.
Saxinu hún stakk í síðu,
Villir hann,
Stillir hann
Ólafi nokkuð svíður.
þar rauður logi brann.
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum,
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum fram.
Ólafur leit sitt hjartablóð
Villir hann,
Stillir hann
Líða niður við hestsins hóf.
þar rauður logi brann.
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum,
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum fram.
Ei leið nema stundir þrjár,
Villir hann,
Stillir hann
Ólafur var sem bleikur nár.
þar rauður logi brann.
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum,
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum fram.
Vendi ég mínu kvæði í kross
Villir hann,
Stillir hann
Sankti María sé með oss.
þar rauður logi brann.
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum,
Blíðan lagði byrinn undan björgunum fram.

English lyrics:
Olaf rode along the cliffs,
He's led astray,
He stills himself,
He comes across an elf-dwelling before him,
There a red flame burned.
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs,
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs ahead.

There an elven maid came out,
He's led astray,
He stills himself,
She was not a Christian dear,
There a red flame burned.
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs,
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs ahead.

"Welcome, Olaf Lilyrose!"
He's led astray,
He stills himself,
"Come to the cliffs and live with us."
There a red flame burned.
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs,
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs ahead.

"I do not want to live with elves,"
He's led astray,
He stills himself,
"I would rather believe in my Christ."
There a red flame burned.
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs,
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs ahead.

She went to her chest,
He's led astray,
He stills himself,
Took up a sharp sword,
There a red flame burned.
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs,
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs ahead.

She stabbed the sword into his side,
He's led astray,
He stills himself,
Olaf is hurt,
There a red flame burned.
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs,
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs ahead.

Olaf saw blood from his heart,
He's led astray,
He stills himself,
Going down to his horse's hoof,
There a red flame burned.
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs,
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs ahead.

He suffered only three hours,
He's led astray,
He stills himself,
Olaf was a pale corpse,
There a red flame burned.
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs,
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs ahead.

I will turn my song to the cross,
He's led astray,
He stills himself,
Saint Mary be with us,
There a red flame burned.
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs,
Gentle was the breeze beneath the cliffs ahead.
