fun fact: abortion is ending a human life

That's a truth, not a fact. Very different concepts. That's a fact.

Protecting and caring for all human life is not theocracy. It's the highest ideal a democracy should uphold.

In the society 99% of “pro-lifers” envision, the state’s paramount concern for “all human life” very obviously terminates a few milliseconds after the baby exits the womb.

This is why many find those representations hollow.

What would a genuine society built around caretaking for all human life look like?

Well, let’s go back to that delivery room. It would require, at a minimum, that the society that forced the pregnant woman to give birth against her will *also* provide her with a 100% paid-for hospital stay.

What else? Free OB-GYN visits leading up to the moment of birth, and the after-care.

And then? The provision of free necessities to the child. Baby formula, diapers, wipes, clothing, toys — the whole 9 yards.

Anyone who’s raised a child or is friends with new parents knows how fantastically expensive children can be, in both time and money.

But if the state really has as much of an interest in the woman’s womb as you claim it does, then it would eagerly do all those things. Instead, in the society we have, mothers are left all on their own.

As I've said before, any discussion of abortion has to be coupled with one about foster care. Frankly put, out foster system is broken. Its underfunded, rife with corruption, choking under bureaucracy, and shattered by a general lack of humanity/goodwill in a system that NEEDS such traits to function.

After all, you're not wrong; what good is it to simply move suffering down the line of life? We NEED to massively expand funding for and generally revamp the foster system. Additionally, programs such as those you mentioned are good ideas too.

It's our duty as a society to protect someone when they medically need their mother specifically to survive. The only alternative, their destruction, is no alternative at all. It's horribly unfair of society to demand the mother care for the child when she can't or simply won't.

As far as funding it goes...government exists to protect its citizens. If we can't do something as simple and good as this, why fund healthcare at all? Defense? Education? I think general foster/supportive care is just as, or even more, important than these.

Just my $0.02 though. ☹️
