Imagine someone around here having the power to do something, thinking through the consequences and how it might be perceived, and deciding not to do it.

Wholesome 💯

What do you think about Envoy voting in the election?

Hmmm. Well I think that’s borderline. An Owner outright campaigning for a party would certainly be out-of-bounds, but if it’s just casting a vote… maybe.

Since the owner's vote could potentially swing an election that's pretty dodgy. I'm pretty split on whether it should be allowed.

In an ideal world (i.e. if I were Owner of this stream… lol j/k) — the Owner would be totally apolitical, let the elected government do its thing, and limit himself or herself only to managing elections fairly and accurately, approving memes, and stopping TOS violations, as all Site and Stream Mods on Imgflip ought to.

I’ve been critical as you know of every Owner who’s gone beyond those boundaries. If it does come down to one vote, and it might… we’ll see.

I've come to a conclusion: I think the owner should be allowed to have opinions (because it's virtually impossible for someone to be completely apolitical) but he shouldn't actively campaign (which to be fair Envoy hasn't really done) but if the election ends up so narrow that the owner's vote could swing it, then it should not be counted.

Yeah, that sounds about right. If the Owner is casting a tie-breaking vote in an election, then the Owner is effectively deciding the trajectory of the stream which negates the spirit of democracy.

If the election is really that close, then a co-Presidency or some other resolution would be preferable.

Exactly. But as I argued earlier, I think the best way to break a tie is to have Congress vote on the candidates tied for first place, and whoever loses becomes Vice President. I understand there may be accusations of bias since that Congress is appointed by the incumbent government, but I think a co-Presidency might be rather chaotic.

That's why it's good Envoy has an unbiased nonpartisan vote-counting assistant. If he did it all himself that would raise a major red flag. Thank you for helping out with the election!

Election commissioner: Doesn't vote
Owner: votes HCP

If HCP win by a vote, Envoy is to blame.

Well Done for being non-biased, Knox!
