The left wants to consolidate power in the dictatorship of the proletariat, though not in a unitary executive leader. Nationalism is tempered by the political environment of the country it originates in. This is why US nationalism is reactionary and the nationalism of the communists in Cuba is revolutionary in character. I recommend reading Stalin's "On The National Question." It's pretty good.
