ON THE STILL SMALL VOICE

We've all heard of those who've heard God speak inwardly; but how do you really know that God is really speaking? Or is it another spirit?

The danger of trying to listen to that voice is that we may actually be engaging in spirit-channeling which is an occultic practice. We may not be intentionally do it, but because of the nature of spiritual warfare where we are tempted by devils, the same can try and tempt us to go this direction or that, making itself appear as God.

And when we begin to try and listen to that voice, we can be dependent on that voice, which then draws us away from scripture as a means for instruction.

For example, "Lord, which college should I go to", "Should I marry him?", or "should I become a missionary?" The way it ought to be done is through the reading of scripture, speaking to fellow believers including Elders and Pastors, and by prayer.

However, those in the Charismatic and Word of Faith churches would have you to only pray and try to listen. Then, we look for confirmation through... signs.

This is essentially no different than one who is a psychic calling out to a spirit, angel, or deity - save - that you're praying to God when special revelation has ended with Christ (Natural Revelation - Romans 1:19-20; Special Revelation - Hebrews 11:1-2).

ON FEELINGS

It is easy to make decisions on how we feel but that is a mistake:

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
- 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

While Satan and his demons generally does make a believer worry, fear, anxious, etc, that is not all that he does.

The LDS for example tells people that if you read the Book of Mormon and you get a burning bosom, that is, you get a feeling of wonderful assurance, comfort, love, etc, then it is from God.
Muhammad, has said also that only a true prophet can produce very eloquent writing. Finally, Hitler is notorious for his hypnotic charisma.

The point of this is that we should NOT depend on our feelings to determine where to go and what is truth. The least of all is your heart. The bible says:

9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
- Jeremiah 17:9
