There wasn't two types, there was only regular squid

Then you forgot the 5% only chanse to spawn, only on bedrock edition and the only mob with an expiration date: the baby squid

The baby squid is just that, a baby variant of squid, that's like saying different colours of shulkers are different mobs.
They also aren't on Java, which is the version I play the most (I rarely play bedrock)
