Being a member of a tribe is not actually a
racial issue. There were times when pioneers
who didn't know what they were doing would get
themselves killed leaving children behind; those
kids weren't a threat & could easily be brought in. Other cases include Annie Oakley: adopted

has a Native stepfather; & Cree Summer:
grew up on the Cree Reserve in Canada.
