Hmm sorry, I did not get the joke. :)

I interpreted your joke as a statement of ecumenical unity; but because the two have different gospels whereas the Bible says there is only one (Galatians 1:6-9) we can never be spiritual brothers and sisters; but it is not to say that we cannot be friends.

Dear XFusion, I wish so many more on my side and yours knows church history as you do!

While you did not know it specifically from drawing from works specific to, as you may have gained it from your history class or youtube, you know a lot more of it than most of either side.

But to the credit on your side, I think the Catholics would be more knowledgeable on that area because that is part of one's apologetical learning., that is, that is part of how one defends the Catholic faith. As the argument goes, the church fathers proved that the Roman Catholic church did not start in the 4th century but the 1st.

Not at all, XFusion, but high praise for you knowing history that most do not bother to study.

Learning church history is important in order to know how doctrine is developed, what heresies that have arisen, and how the church have dealt with them.

For example, the Nicene and the Apostles Creed was formulated in the Council of Nicea 325 and Council of Constantinople 381 to counter the Arian heresy that claimed that Jesus was a lesser god.

Later, the Athanasian Creed was made to clarify what the Trinity is and what isn't.

And, like history in general, church history ought to be learned in order to not repeat the mistakes of the past.

Following the Reformation Period was the 30 Years War where both Protestants and Catholics fought against each other in order eliminate the other once and for all. The war was so total (meaning that war was waged so ruthlessly with so little restraint) that it showed how extreme both sides have become. Holy wars tended to be fought in that manner which is why it should never be repeated again.
