Conservatives seem worried that Ashli Babbitt won’t be remembered at the “partisan” Jan. 6 hearings in which Republicans refused to participate. So, let’s remember her here! Ashli Babbitt was a U.S. Air Force war veteran who served for 14 years and completed several overseas tours of duty with distinction. When she returned home in 2017, she started a pool cleaning company. Sadly, in her spare time she began falling under the sway of Trump’s lies, QAnon, and the hysterical right-wing propaganda that you’ll find on internet hellholes like 4Chan and Gab and Parler and Imgflip’s own politics stream. She was shot in the left shoulder with one round on Jan. 6, 2021, while she and an angry mob were actively attempting to break and enter an inner chamber of Congress — perhaps the single most justified police shooting in the history of police shootings. Remarkably under these circumstances, the Capitol police were able to organize an emergency response team to administer medical care and transport her to Washington Hospital Center, where she succumbed to her wounds. It was sad, so sad. Babbitt seems destined to go down in history as a cautionary tale of how some radical right-wingers of our era threw away their lives and reputations in defense of an orange-spraytanned blowhard. But, what do I know. I don’t make the news. I just meme it.
