Well, it simply was part of the "model German" that Hitler wanted to portray. I don't think I've come across the information who actually designed the uniforms but it was basically the style of the time but with less ornamentation than it had been in the time of the Holy Roman Empire. Basically, for people who like uniforms, it's a uniform. š¤·

I think whoever chose the designers for German military fashion knew the optics value of getting someone with stylish taste . Members of the Gestapo and the high-rankers were scumbags for sure, but that crisp, deco look did lend an appearance of class. Scary to think of the monstrous mindset behind the visage though.
