Not nearly as colorful but Arizona has the Painted Desert. So if you can't afford to go to China or Peru then at least you can go to Arizona and see this.

And then there are the Painted Hills of central Oregon, in the Painted Hills Unit of John Day Fossil Beds National Monument near Mitchell, Oregon.
Take US 26 forty-four miles east from Prineville (or four miles west from Mitchell) to Burnt Ranch Rd, then go six miles north.
